Is Saw XI cancelled?

The Saw franchise has captivated horror fans for two decades, delivering ten films, a soft reboot, a spinoff, and even an in-between sequel. With a worldwide box office gross surpassing a billion dollars, Saw remains a staple in the genre. However, the future of the series is now uncertain, as reports suggest that Saw XI may have been abandoned.

Is Saw XI Dead?

According to an anonymous source close to the production, the highly anticipated sequel is no longer moving forward.

“It’s totally dead,” the source claims. “It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.”

This revelation comes as a shock to fans, especially considering the success of Saw X in 2023. Following its strong reception, Lionsgate officially announced Saw XI with a teaser image and a planned release date of September 27, 2024. Kevin Greutert, a franchise veteran, was set to direct, with Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan returning as screenwriters. Additionally, key cast members Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Costas Mandylor were expected to reprise their roles.

However, in spring 2024, Lionsgate pushed the film’s release back a year, moving it to September 26, 2025. Now, new information suggests that behind-the-scenes turmoil may have led to the project’s downfall.

What Went Wrong?

Sources indicate that internal conflicts derailed Saw XI in early 2024. “Everything went sideways in January 2024,” the insider reveals. “The producers started fighting. One wanted to push ahead, but the other kept blocking progress.”

The friction between the producers reportedly caused delays, and with no clear resolution in sight, the project stalled. Even more concerning, Lionsgate apparently did little to mediate the dispute. “They didn’t have anyone to smooth over the disagreement,” the source claims.

The Future of Saw

With Saw XI seemingly shelved, the future of the franchise remains uncertain. There are still unresolved plot threads left dangling, leaving devoted fans without the closure they had hoped for. If Saw XI is indeed canceled, it could signal the end of the franchise—or at least this iteration of it.

The insider suggests that the rights to the series could be sold to another studio, but if that happens, it may mean a full reboot rather than a continuation of the existing story.

In a disappointing twist, it appears Saw has been undone not by Jigsaw’s elaborate traps, but by behind-the-scenes conflicts. “Greed and ego won,” the source concludes, leaving fans questioning whether they’ll ever see another chapter in the iconic horror saga.
