Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco recently shared a hilariously awkward moment they experienced at one of Taylor Swift’s post-award show parties. The couple, who went public with their relationship in late 2023, admitted they showed up way too early—leading to what Gomez described as a “mortifying” situation.

A Party Faux Pas: Selena and Benny Arrive Too Early

During a recent appearance on Spotify’s “Countdown To” podcast, Gomez recalled the moment she and Blanco realized their mistake. “As a couple, we went to Taylor’s party after some awards show,” she said. While she found the moment “kind of cute,” she admitted she was “mortified” when they realized they were among the first guests to arrive.

Blanco, known for his humor, couldn’t help but tease Gomez about her punctuality. “We’re the first people at every single party when I go with you,” he joked. “You, like, show up when my mother shows up to a party.”

Keeping Their Romance Under Wraps

Adding to the awkwardness, Gomez and Blanco were still keeping their relationship a secret at the time. Blanco recalled that they had to be extra careful not to show too much affection in public. “We didn’t even, like, touch each other or, like, really look at each other,” he shared.

Gomez playfully denied another claim from Blanco—that she was slightly annoyed when other women unknowingly flirted with him at the party. “No! Stop, don’t say that,” she laughed as he pointed out how she reacted when someone approached him.

Though the couple didn’t specify which of Swift’s gatherings this happened at, their romance became public in December 2023 when they were spotted kissing in New York City while celebrating Swift’s birthday. Gomez later confirmed they had been secretly dating for some time.

Secret Dates Before Their Relationship Went Public

Before revealing their romance to the world, Gomez and Blanco went to great lengths to keep things private. Blanco reminisced about one of his favorite undercover dates with Gomez—a disguised trip to the Santa Monica Pier.

“I remember having so much fun being with you ’cause we could just fully let go and not worry about anything else,” he shared. “We rode the Ferris wheel, and we got corn dogs and cotton candy.”

Gomez, smiling, added, “It was so cute. I was in a state of ecstasy the entire time.”

A Shared Passion for Music

With their relationship now in the spotlight, Gomez and Blanco are embracing their love and their shared passion for music. Their upcoming joint album, I Said I Love You First, is set to release this Friday.

Gomez credits Blanco with helping her rediscover her passion for music. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, she opened up about struggling to find her artistic direction before their collaboration.

“I was very frustrated and kind of confused on where I wanted to go next musically,” she admitted. “And we had been together for a while, and obviously I would confide in him. I couldn’t figure out my sound.”

Blanco, a celebrated producer, played a key role in reigniting her creative spark. He revealed that many of their songs were created through spontaneous late-night writing sessions. “Every time she would wake up, I’d take out a pen so she could write what was on her mind,” he said. “Then we’d go into the other room and create it, and it became a song.”

Fans have already gotten a glimpse of Gomez’s new sound with singles like Sunset Blvd, Scared of Loving You, and Call Me When You Break Up, a collaboration with Gracie Abrams. With their music and relationship now fully in the open, Gomez and Blanco are embracing this new chapter—without worrying about arriving too early to the party.
