Apple is among the biggest names in Silicon Valley today.

If you’ve owned an Apple device at any point since 2014, you could be eligible for a payout from a massive $95 million settlement over claims that Siri secretly recorded users without their consent.

The class action lawsuit, Lopez v. Apple, was filed in March 2021 in a California federal court. It alleges that Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, may have been activated unintentionally and then listened in on private conversations—potentially sharing sensitive information with third-party advertisers.

Although Apple has denied all allegations and maintains that Siri only activates intentionally, the company has agreed to the settlement to avoid further legal costs. If you’ve had a Siri-enabled device between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, you may be eligible for compensation.

What’s the Case About?

According to the legal notice, users claim their devices began recording personal conversations without being prompted by “Hey Siri.” Some say they were later targeted with ads related to things they had only spoken aloud in private. Others reported hearing clicks or seeing unexplained Siri activity during conversations.

The lawsuit cites a 2019 Guardian report that found Apple contractors had access to Siri recordings, some of which included deeply personal or confidential information. At the time, Apple admitted a small percentage of Siri interactions were reviewed for quality control but said they took user privacy seriously.

Who’s Eligible?

The criteria to file a claim are relatively simple. You qualify if:

  • You owned or purchased a Siri-enabled device during the timeframe.

  • You experienced an unintended Siri activation during a private or confidential conversation.

Eligible devices include:

  • iPhones

  • iPads

  • Apple Watches

  • MacBooks

  • iMacs

  • Apple TVs

  • HomePods

  • iPod Touches

How to File a Claim

To submit a claim, visit the Lopez Voice Assistant Settlement website (official link). If you received a claim code by email or postcard, enter it to expedite the process. If not, you can still submit a claim by verifying your information manually.

The deadline to file is July 2, 2025, so you still have time—but acting sooner is better.

How Much Can You Get?

Each approved claim may receive up to $20 per device, for a maximum of five devices per person. That means the most you can receive is $100. However, if there’s an overwhelming number of claimants, the actual payout could be less.

The number of approved claims will determine the final payment amount. Payouts won’t be issued until after the settlement is finalized.

When Will You Get Paid?

The final court hearing to approve the settlement is currently set for August 1, 2025. If there are no appeals, payments could be distributed shortly afterward. The settlement website will provide updates as the process unfolds.

What Happens If You Do Nothing?

If you don’t submit a claim or opt out of the settlement, you give up your right to any compensation and the ability to sue Apple separately over these claims.

Bottom Line:
If you’ve used a Siri-enabled Apple device in the past decade, there’s a real chance you could receive a payout from this class action settlement. With a few minutes and a simple online form, you could earn up to $100. Just make sure to file your claim before July 2, 2025.
