Who is League of Legends?
League of Legends, a.k.a LoL or League, is a multiplayer online battle video game launched in 2009 by the game developer Riot Games. Inspired by Warcraft III's custom map, Defense of The Ancients, Riot sought to develop a stand-alone game in a similar genre; hence, League of Legends.
The game is free and only earns revenue through in-purchase character upgrades or customization. You can download it on both Microsoft Windows and macOS.
League generally received positive feedback from critics, highlighting its production value, character designs, and accessibility. It quickly became one of the greatest video games of all time. However, there have been reports of negative and abusive in-game behavior of its players, and it continues to persist despite Riot's efforts to solve the problem.
Due to its prominence, League is the largest e-Sport in the world, with an international competitive scene of leagues that culminate in the annual League of Legends Championship. The game's competitions and events are often live-streamed on websites and mainstream sports channels.
League of Legends currently has 15M subscribers on YouTube, 17M likes on Facebook, 5.2M followers on Twitter, 4.4M on Instagram, and 449.7K on TikTok.
