Harry Styles Taking Over Shia LaBeouf’s Role: The Real Reason Why Harry Replaced Him In “Don’t Worry Darling”

Shia LaBeouf is reportedly calling out Olivia Wilde over the real reason why he was replaced by Harry Styles in Wilde’s directorial film, “Don’t Worry Darling.” Whether or not the word “fired” was used is still unclear to this day, but if you read all the articles and blog reviews about it, it was made to appear that indeed, LaBeouf was let go by the studio. Now the actor is calling out the director, claiming “he quit” and was not “fired” from the movie itself.

The Backstory

Back in 2020 at the start of the movie production, Wilde decided to fire Shia. The studio at that time blamed it on conflicting schedules. Wilde then spoke about the situation saying:” I say this as someone who is such an admirer of his work. His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions. He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances. I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job.”

A few months shortly after LaBeouf’s exit from “Don’t Worry Darling,” his ex-girlfriend and co-star from “Honey Boy,” FKA Twigs sued the actor for sexual battery. The following month, Shia and his agency CAA went their separate ways, and the actor checked himself into an inpatient facility.

Then came Olivia’s statements saying, “A lot came to light after this happened that troubled me, in terms of behavior. I find myself just really wishing him health and evolution because I believe in restorative justice. But for our film, what we really needed was energy that was incredibly supportive. Particularly with a movie like this, I knew that I was going to be asking Florence to be in very vulnerable situations, and my priority was making her feel safe and making her feel supported.”

Olivia Wilde’s Video To Shia LaBeouf

Wilde’s statements clearly upset Shia because this was a far cry from the real reason why Harry Styles took over his role in the film. It was wrong and it was misleading. Sources close to LaBeouf spoke with Variety, armed with receipts. He kept his exchanges with Olivia, including all the emails and even a video that she sent him, seemingly pleading with him to stay on the film.

Apart from his interview, Shia also sent a video to Variety that Wilde supposedly sent him back on August 19, 2020, two days after he said he quit the film. In the video, Wilde is recording a message for Shia while driving. Saying she is “not ready to give up on this yet.” She also touched on the seeming tension between him and co-star Florence Pugh, who plays his wife Alice in the film.

Wilde added, “I feel like I’m not ready to give up on this yet, and I too am heartbroken and I want to figure this out. You know, I think this might be a bit of a wake-up call for Miss. Flo and I want to know if you’re open to giving this a shot with me, with us. If she really commits, if she really puts her mind and heart into it at this point and if you guys can make peace—I respect your point of view, and I respect hers—but if you guys can do it, what do you think? Is there hope? Will you let me know?”

The Scoop From An Insider Source

A source close to LaBeouf stated that not only was Shia NOT fired from the film, but that director Olivia Wilde pleaded with him to stay in the production. The actor quit during pre-production after it dawned on him that things that were happening were not ideal to make it a successful production.

The source said that Shia initially signed into the film project because he wanted to work with Florence Pugh. But after he read the script, he found it to be “awful” and Wilde looked like she agreed with him and even told Shia she wanted the actor to help her modify the script. The source added that Shia was not comfortable with this request and eventually turned down Olivia.

All of this happened even before any cast rehearsals were made. Pugh initially couldn’t make it since she had just wrapped up a Marvel production. She was exhausted and wanted to limit her contact with everyone outside her bubble because she didn’t want to catch the COVID-19 virus.

The insider close to Shia said there was no conflict between Florence and Shia because the two NEVER even met in person. Yes, they had one Facetime chat that lasted about 10 minutes, but that was it. That was all the interaction they had and LaBeouf worried that there will be no “chemistry” between them by the time they needed to shoot the film.

Is Harry Styles With Olivia Wilde?

Is Harry Styles married to Olivia Wilde? Not yet, but the two have been dating for almost a year. Wilde is older than the One Direction superstar by a decade. Is Harry Styles in a relationship with Olivia for the long haul? Only time will tell, but she seems to trust him enough to take the place of Shia’s role as Jack, Alice’s  (Florence Pugh) husband in “Don’t Worry Darling” with some very explicit sex scenes.

The trailer is out and people are very impressed with the film’s sneak preview. Some people are wondering if this ‘conflict’ between Wilde and Shia is all for the show, as part of their PR for their upcoming movie. Honestly speaking, there’s no need to ‘spice it up to hype it up’ because the movie in itself is outstanding. It’s pointless to have a box office hit if people’s reputation is ruined in the process.
